The American Heart Association (AHA) has done a great job discovering what cholesterol does and how it affects our health. We know that high cholesterol can cause heart disease and stroke, and by lowering our cholesterol we reduce our risk and keep our bodies health. Also, with diet, weight loss and exercise we can improve our cholesterol levels as well.

Not all cholesterol is bad for you. There are both good and bad forms of cholesterol, keeping these in balance is critical for proper heart health. In the past, the primary focus was to reduce the total or “bad” cholesterol and doctors overlooked the HDL good cholesterol. Recent research suggests that raising the HDL levels may provide even more protection against heart disease. Raising the HDL by 1% can reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease by 2% in men and 3% in women. For example, if your HDL is 36mg/dl and it increased by 3.6mg/dl that’s 10%, can make you 20-30% less likely to have heart disease. Several studies have proven that low HDL is a risk factor in heart disease. (17)

Prescription drugs are available to lower cholesterol and have been proven very effective. Millions of Americans can attest to the cholesterol lowing properties of prescription drugs and they can attest to the side effects as well. Prescription drugs (statins) can cause elevated liver enzymes which are an early indication of possible liver damage. These statins’ have also been associated with muscle inflammation and muscle degeneration, causing muscle pain in many patients. Statin drugs also reduce the CoQ10 levels in the body; this can lead to heart disease if left go long enough. Statins do very little for boosting good cholesterol levels and as we recall boosting good cholesterol can reduce risk of heart disease.

Thankfully there are other effective solutions for lowering cholesterol levels naturally and without side effects. There are vitamin and herbal combinations that can effectively reduce cholesterol as much as 23%. (1) First let’s review how cholesterol is linked to heart disease.

Cholesterol is a fatty like substance found in every living cell in the body. Cholesterol helps digest fats, strengthen cell membranes and make hormones. The majority of our cholesterol is manufactured in the liver, but cholesterol is also produced in the small intestines and by individual cells in the body. Even though the body makes all the cholesterol we need, approximately 1000 milligrams a day, we get additional cholesterol in our diet. (2,3) Foods highest in cholesterol are egg yolks and organ meat such as liver and kidney. No plant based food sources have cholesterol even avocado and peanut butter, they are only high in fat content. Animal sources and dairy all contain cholesterol.

Even though cholesterol is needed for many of the body’s functions, too much in the blood is bad. Excess amounts of cholesterol in the blood lead to arterial cholesterol build up and increase your risk of blood clots, heart attack and stroke. (4) All your cells live off a constant flow of blood which supplies oxygen and nutrients. When cholesterol builds up on the arteries, the blood flow is reduced through the heart. If a blood clot hits a narrow artery and blocks blood flow a heart attack happens. If the arteries narrow and not enough blood flows to the heart one will experience heart pain and given time a heart attack as well.

Cholesterol can not dissolve into the blood so the cholesterol has to be transported through the blood by a special carrier called lipoproteins. Two well known lipoproteins are low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoproteins (HDL). LDL is associated with bad cholesterol and HDL is considered good cholesterol. LDL distributes cholesterol through out the entire body and is the cause of arterial fat build up. HDL carries cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver to be processed and eliminated. HDL reduces arterial fat build up and reduces the risk or heart disease. In fact studies have shown that by raising the HDL, good cholesterol, can reduce your risk of heart disease more than lowering the LDL. As a result the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) has established these guidelines for a health heart: (5)

1.HDL level of 60 is optimal but 40 for men and 50 for women on average.
2.LDL levels in the range of 100 – 159 are best.
3.Total cholesterol both HDL and LDL under 200.

Your doctor has probably been throwing around the work triglycerides. Triglycerides are the fats our body uses as fuel, the metabolisms energy source. Your triglyceride level changes with every meal through out the day. If the levels rise too much it’s a sign your meals have to many carbohydrates and sugars. Triglycerides are another risk factor in heart disease. High amounts causes the blood to be sluggish and it reduces the amount of oxygen the blood can transport especially in the small blood vessels. There are medications available for triglycerides, but keep in mind there are side effects to taking statins. Consider a diet with reduced carbohydrate and sugar to lower those triglycerides along with a good vitamin and supplement regiment.

For a healthy heart consider the following vitamins, minerals and herbs: vitamin C, E, B-6, B-12, niacin, folic acid, magnesium, selenium and amino acids, also antioxidants coenzyme Q10, alpha lipoic acid, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), policosanol, red yeast rice, and herbs hawthorn berry, garlic, grape seed, pine bark, soy isoflavones have all shown to have beneficial affects for a better cardiovascular system and healthier heart.

Vitamin C – An antioxidant shown to reduce arterial stiffness and inhibit platelet aggregation – two factors known to promote atherosclerosis. (6)

Vitamin E – An antioxidant protects against atherosclerotic plaques and shown to reduce total cholesterol levels. (7)

Niacin – lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, while raising the HDL cholesterol. (8)

Vitamin B12 – shown to reduce Homocysteine levels. (8)

Coenzyme Q10 – A fat soluble nutrient found in the mitochondria of virtually all cells and an essential factor in the Krebs cycle (cellular energy production). (9) A strong antioxidant shown to help prevent LDL oxidation and strengthen the inner lining of arteries.

Policosanol – A substance derived from sugar cane shown to reduce LDL cholesterol by 23% and increase HDL by 13% in an 8 week period.

Hawthorn Berry Extract – Supports the muscle strength of the heart, helping to maintain healthy heart rhythm. (10) Also known to control high blood pressure and relieve mild angina (chest pain).

Garlic Bulb – An antioxidant that has a wide range of cardiovascular health benefits. Traditionally used to lower blood pressure and cholesterol this herb has been shown to raise HDL and inhibit LDL oxidation and platelet aggregation. (1)

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) – A derivative of the amino acid, cysteine. NAC helps boost glutathione levels, one of the body’s best cellular antioxidants and even helps boost good cholesterol levels.

Alpha Lipoic Acid – An antioxidant and vital nutrient for the production of energy. Alpha Lipoic Acid helps recycle other antioxidants including vitamin C, vitamin E, Coenzyme Q10, and glutathione. Also, helps control cholesterol, lower high blood pressure, and help to manage blood sugar levels.

Soy Isoflavones – Soy protein enriched diet has been shown to decrease LDL and triglyceride levels and significantly increase HDL levels. (12,13)

The Scripps Memorial Hospital in 2002 conducted a study of these supplements on 50 patients. These patients had varied health histories and they were evaluated before the test and at 3 months and 6 months. After three months HDL levels had improved in all cases and at 6 months total good cholesterol increased 23% and triglycerides dropped 40%. Reduction in Homocysteine and amino acids levels found in the blood was also observed.

These supplement combinations are safe, after a 6 month pilot study, 50 patients with varying cardiovascular histories did not experience any serious adverse effects and these supplements were safe to use with statins. (1)

Pantethine is also known as pantothenic acid or vitamin B5 found in small amounts in the foods we eat. Pantethine lowers cholesterol by blocking its production in the liver. The production of cholesterol in the body is extremely complex. It involves many biochemical processes and requires several enzymatic steps. Pantethine safely blocks several enzymes needed to produce cholesterol. One enzyme in particular, HMG-CoA, when blocked can reduce your cholesterol production by 50%. When cholesterol production is blocked, the liver will pull LDL out of the bloodstream further reducing the bad cholesterol in the body. On average Pantethine can lower total cholesterol by 16%, LDL cholesterol by 14% and triglycerides by 38% and raise HDL by 10%. (13-16)

If you currently do not have heart disease or atherosclerosis, you shouldn’t need to worry about the amount of cholesterol you consume. Most doctors won’t prescribe statins to healthy patients as a preventative due to the potential side effects of the drugs. If you find you are consuming a lot of cholesterol in your diet, I would recommend a diet change and supplementation of the vitamins listed above to maintain a healthy heart. With the help of our doctors and the vast amount of information that is out there, we will be able to prevent heart disease and live longer healthier lives.

Dual Language Education

2010 September 3
by admin

In the midst of multiple international conflicts, an interwoven global economy and the shrinking nature of our techno-driven world, language learning can no longer be considered an elective subject, but should rather be a necessary core to modern education.

Typically, we put language learning on hold through much of elementary school, but this is the time when children鈥檚 minds are most adept for absorbing words and languages.

Schools throughout the country are realizing this need and implementing Dual Language Education.

From neighborhood schools to charters and magnets, these schools are providing their students with greater opportunity to academically compete with students abroad by diversifying their skill sets in areas of communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and analysis. Some education leaders are even predicting that dual language education will be the future of American schools.

Dual Language Education vs. ESL/ESOL Dual Language Education is often confused with ESL/ESOL programs. While there are similarities between the two, there are major differences in their agendas.

The Breakdown: Compare & Contrast

Dual Language Education

Schoolwide approach Goal: To provide ALL students with the skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) necessary to become fluent in both languages Programs usually begin at a young age (kindergarten or 1st grade) and continue for at least five years Students automatically opt in by enrolling in the school Depending on the type of program, requirements are placed on instructional time in partner language Not available in every school ESL/ESOL

Select group of students Goal: To provide non-native English-speaking students with the proper skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) necessary for academic success Program entrance is on an individual basis and can begin at any grade for any length of period Students may opt in or may be chosen based on entrance exams/placement tests Program is supplemental to classroom curriculum Most public schools have ESL/ESOL Variation in Dual Language Education Within the last few years, there has been a steady increase in the number of dual language programs throughout the United States. Results vary depending on the type of program and structure implemented however overall results remain positive. Parents and educators have taken great interest in such programs because they feel they will provide students with multilevel thinking strategies, stronger linguistic skills, and greater communication skills to succeed in the interdependent world.

Dual language programs can be classified into four categories:

Living With Chronic Low Back Pain

2010 September 3

They tell me my diagnosis is pretty common, that millions of Americans suffer with low back pain. I’ve also heard that next to the common cold, missing work from low back pain is the biggest reason. With these two major known facts, I then wondered why getting the correct treatment for low back pain is so difficult.

After being diagnosed with a herniated disc and bone disc degenerative disease, I was immediately scheduled to see a surgeon. The surgeon suggested I have back surgery. To make a long story short, after a lot of prayer, a lot of thought, and after talking to many people who already have had surgery with my same diagnosis, I chose against surgery.

After deciding against surgery, I found I was immediately cast in a different light, by my doctor, and the medical community in general. I found my pain was then not taken seriously. I felt disbelieved about how much I hurt. I actually felt like a drug addict when asking for something for the pain. It appeared my physician felt back surgery was the end all cure all to my back & leg pain.

To the contrary studies have shown, back surgery may actually cause more pain, complications, and even damage that requires more follow up surgery. Knowing physicians and surgeons are already aware of this, it really makes you wonder why they would put you at such risk. I wish some of these healthcare professionals would just once switch places with me for one day living with chronic low back pain.

As a chronic pain sufferer, I’m dedicated to helping other chronic pain sufferers who suffer from pain in any manner. For more information go to:

10 Biggest Mistakes People Make With Google Adwords

On the highly competitive Google AdWords pay per click (PPC) search engine, it’s now more important than ever to ensure that your PPC campaigns are optimized to their utmost potential. All of us want to achieve maximum return on investment (ROI) for the keywords or phrases that are most relevant to our businesses, and are most likely to provide our sites with targeted traffic.

With the cost-per-click (CPC) prices available through various PPC search engines always increasing, it’s essential that you avoid certain mistakes that will undoubtedly result in poorly performing PPC campaigns. The mistakes that you should avoid include:

1. creating a long list of less than targeted keywords

2. failing to identify unique aspects of your product or service

3. a lack of keywords in your ad text

4. directing users solely to your home page

5. creating single ad groups

6. utilizing single campaigns

7. using broad match only

8. failing to optimize ad serving for your ads

9. failing to track results

10. entering the content network without modifying bids

In this section I will explain each of these mistakes in turn, so that you’re aware of the problems they cause, and know how to avoid the pitfalls.

1. Creating a Long List of Poorly Targeted Keywords

When you first set out to create your AdWords campaign, it’s important not to go “keyword crazy” — resist the temptation to create long lists of irrelevant, generic keywords. For example, if you ran an automotive dealership then, it wouldn’t be in your best interests to target the keyword “truck.” The cost per click (CPC) for such a generic keyword would be incredibly high when compared to a more descriptive and relevant keyword, such as “T-Z783 Extended Cab.”

Similarly, the keyphrase “tail light covers” would not produce conversions if you strictly conducted automotive sales only. The phrase may bring visitors to your site, but if they don’t find what they’re looking for when they get there, they’ll leave just as quickly as they arrived.

It’s important to identify your specific niche, and to market directly to users who want the products and services that you offer. Don’t trick yourself into thinking that broader is better. With AdWords, that’s just not true.

2. Failing to Identify Unique Aspects of your Product or Service

Before you implement your AdWords campaign, you must understand exactly what it is that makes your organization stand out from the competition. By identifying your unique products, services, or offerings, you’ll see clearly how you can rise above your competitors and zone in on the keywords or phrases that are unique to your business.

I’d recommend that you perform an analysis of your competition. Have a look and see what they’re doing, and which phrases they’re using. After you’ve conducted a competition analysis, and you understand what makes your products or services unique, you’ll be able to come up with a strategy that will topple your competitors.

3. A Lack of Keywords in your Ad Text

When you’re creating descriptive ad copy, it’s imperative that you manage to inject your keywords in to your title and description while maintaining a delicate balance between clarity and relevance. Your ad copy should be tailored in such a way that as visitors read it, they understand exactly what they can expect when they click on your ad.

4. Directing Users Solely to your Homepage

Few site owners take the time to decide which destination URL should be applied to each ad. Instead, they point all ads in a campaign to the site’s homepage, then wonder why they’re not getting decent conversions.

If you’ve spent time compiling a list of relevant keywords that describe the unique aspects of your offering, why on earth would you send everyone to your homepage in the hopes that they’ll navigate through the site to find what they’re looking for?

Why not send them straight to the page that contains exactly what was described to them in the ad copy? Referring back to our example, if, as the automotive dealership owner, you’d created an ad that contained the keyword “T-Z783 Extended Cab,” which URL would you send prospects to? Instead of sending them to www.auto-motive-dealership.com, you’d send them straight to www.auto-motive-dealership.com/T-Z783_Extended_Cab.html, of course!

5. Creating Single Ad Groups

If you categorize ads that target related keywords into a common AdWords ad group, you’ll establish a high level of control over your entire campaign.

Let’s image that you own a sporting goods store. You might start by grouping all the ads you’d targeted towards hockey skates into a single ad group. You’d then create another ad-group which would contain ads that targeted hockey sticks, another that contained ads for hockey gloves, and so on.

Organizing your ad group structure in this manner gives you the ability to create in-depth reports on each ad-group, and to make real changes that have a significant impact on those ads’ performance over time.

6. Utilizing Single Ad Campaigns

Once you have your AdWords ads sorted into easily identified ad groups, you can move on to the next step: creating campaigns.

In the example above, we created ad groups that contain ads relating to separate products: hockey skates, sticks, gloves, and so on. Now, it’s time to create a container entitled “hockey equipment” to hold all of the ad groups in the campaign. Then, you can repeat the process of creating ad groups for tennis — one group for shoes, one for racquets, and so on — and drop all the groups into a single campaign called “tennis equipment.”

Having highly organized campaigns is the key to determining which ads are creating the optimal conversions. Don’t simply put all your ads into the one campaign — split them into separate campaigns to make tracking and amending the ad groups easy.

7. Using Broad Match Only

Unless you take advantage of the phrase matching options that AdWords makes available, chances are that you’re missing out on potential customers and creating a higher CPC for yourself.

As the name suggests, broad matches are usually less targeted than exact and phrase matches. Broad matching is the default option under which your ads will appear for expanded matches such as plurals or relevant keyword variations.

When you utilize phrase matching, your ad will appear for your chosen search terms in the order that you specify, and sometimes for other terms, too. Exact matching is by far the most targeted option to use, so don’t neglect it! You ad will appear for the exact keyword you specified. The negative keyword option is also a great tool — it allows you to specify the keywords for which you don’t want the ads to appear. Here’s a quick example of how these targeting options work:

* Broad match: Default option: blue widget
* Phrase match: Surround the keyword in quotes: “blue widget”
* Exact match: Surround the keyword in square brackets: [blue widget]
* Negative match: Place a negative character before the keyword: -blue widget

Take the time to test these different matching techniques, and to tweak your selections to improve your conversions. Broad matching is not necessarily the best — or only — option!

8. Failing to Optimize Ad Serving for your Ads

When you take advantage of the AdWords ad serving service, you’ll ensure that your most popular ads are displayed more often.

The AdWords platform will give more weight to the ads with the highest click through rates (CTRs), and will display them more often than ads with lower (CTRs) in the same ad group.
9. Failing to Track Results

In order to have any idea about your AdWords campaign’s performance, you must be able to identify which keywords work and which do not. Google AdWords supplies a vast array of very useful tracking tools. Google has also built into the AdWords interface Google Analytics — a marvellous web analytics tool that provides in-depth reporting on all aspects of your campaign’s performance.

I cannot stress enough the importance of creating goals for your AdWords campaign, then comparing your actual performance against these goals so that you can gauge your success.

10. Entering the Content Network without Modifying Bids

The AdWords platform has recently given advertisers the ability to set different bids for the content network than for the search network.

If you don’t set different bids on the content network for your keywords, you’ll be paying more than you should be for each click. Lower the prices on certain keywords, and you’ll notice that the number of clickthroughs you’ll receive will remain the same as at the higher bid.
Conclusion

The purpose of this article was to create awareness among AdWords advertisers about the common mistakes they can make with this network, and to eliminate frustrations that may emerge as you manage Google AdWords campaigns.

The points outlined above are compiled from the mistakes that I’ve stumbled upon time and time again. I hope that this advice helps you to create a marketing campaign that will generate dramatic increases to your business profits.

The famed actor passes away with his wife by his side.

Hollywood has lost a legend, as Oscar-winning actor CHARLTON HESTON has died. According to the Associated Press, he passed away Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife of over 60 years, LYDIA, by his side.

The Heston family released the following statement to ET, "To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support. Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played. Indeed, he committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with unmatched enthusiasm and integrity. We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor. He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved."

"No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words, ‘I have lived such a wonderful life! I’ve lived enough for two people.’"

Thehandsome and iconic star, known for playing such historical figures as MOSES,MICHELANGELO and MARC ANTONY,shocked the world when he announced he was suffering from symptoms consistent with Alzheimer’s in 2002.

In Heston’suntouchable list ofclassic film roles, he will be best remembered as Moses in ‘The Ten Commandments’ (1956), as well as for the 1959 epic ‘Ben-Hur’ (for which he won an Academy Award), ‘Touch of Evil’ and ‘Planet of the Apes.’

Born John Charleton Carter in 1924 in the Chicago suburb of Evanston IL, the actor stayed close to home to study drama at Northwestern University where he played the lead in the school production of Peer Gynt and also met his wife LYDIA CLARKE.

The happy couple settled in the mountain town of Asheville, NC, and operated a theater where Heston perfected his acting skills. By 1947 he had made his Broadway debut in Antony and Cleopatra and moved on to become a member of the highly-respected "Studio One" live television series.

He and Lydia headed west to give Hollywood a shot and in 1950 he landed a part opposite LIZABETH SCOTT in WILLIAM DIETERLE’s ‘Dark City.’ His breakout role came in 1952 when famed director CECIL B. DeMILLE cast him as an ill-tempered circus manager in ‘The Greatest Show on Earth.’

The steely-eyed actor began his run playing historical figures in 1953 with the role of BUFFALO BILL in ‘The Pony Express’ and ANDREW JACKSON in ‘The President’s Lady.’ But in 1956 DeMille cast him in the part of Moses in ‘The Ten Commandments’ — a role that would make him a worldwide star. In 1959 Heston played the title role in the epic to end all epics, ‘Ben Hur.’

By the 1960s he turned to westerns ‘Will Penny’ and science fiction films like ‘Planet of the Apes’ (1968), moving on in the ’70s to the the realm of disaster films, most notably ‘Airport 1975.’

In the ’80s and ’90s, Heston continued working in television and films, including KENNETH BRANAGH’s 1996 version of ‘Hamlet.’ Heston starred on the small screen in the "Dynasty"spin-off "The Colbys" (1985-1987). His last roles were on the big screen in ‘Town &Country’ (2001) and the 2003 foreign film ‘My Father, Rua Alguem 5555.’

When not acting, Heston spent his time as the president of the Screen Actors Guild, serving for 6 terms. He also acted as president of the National Rifle Association, ending his five-year run in 2003.

Heston is survived by his wife Lydia and their two children, FRASER and HOLLY, as well as several grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held and the Heston family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Motion Picture and Television Fund.

Strategies to play the online slots game

2010 September 3
by admin

There are hundreds of different games available at online casinos. Some are very simple, and others are rather complicated. Vovol.nl has many online casino games like online bingo, online scratch cards, online roulette, online backgammon, etc; but vovol.nl has picked out the most popular Internet casino game - online slots, that we think you should know about. There are many slot games and now we are going to see the strategies to play the online slots game.

Here are the strategies that we have divided into main points. They are -

1. Pick Your Online Slot Machine wisely.

One of the great advantages of an online casino is the wide variety of slots games, but this can also be a source of confusion. All Slots Online Casino has over 200 online slot machines. It offers 3-reel classic slots and 5-reel video slots and UK-style online fruit machines; slot machines with only one payline and slot machines with 3, 5, 9, even 100 paylines. It has slot machines with themes ranging from the Tanzoo to the Classic Jackpots, from NedBet to EuroCazino slots.

No single casino slots game is right for everybody. So take your time, browse through the casino Games Lobby, and find the online slot game that appeals to you. Afterall Gaming is for fun!!

2.Learn to Play Your Online Slot Game

Every online slot game is a little bit different. Before you start to play slots online, take time to familiarize yourself with the rules of your chosen slot machine. Make sure you understand what you have to do in order to win. If your online slots game offers wild symbols or scatters or multipliers, make sure you understand what it means. If it offers bonus features, make sure you understand them, too.

3.Betting the maximum

When you have figured out a betting level that suits your wallet, go one notch lower still and get into the habit of always making max-coin bets. Instead of betting one coin of $1, bet the maximum number of quarters. Most of the time, there is no difference between these two slots strategies, but to qualify for the really high payouts, you must bet max coins. On the whole, you play with slightly better odds if you bet max coins.

Read the information on the front of the machine and make sure you understand the payout schedule, this is part one of your slots strategy. Some machines have an auto-spin feature that lets you play spin after spin without watching.

4.Seeing all the angles

Understand the concept of pay lines. This is an important part of both live and online slots strategy. Some machines can have as much as 25 pay lines. You must understand that in cases like this, it is not enough to play max coins. If you play max coins on one pay line out of 5, you will not win the largest payouts or the progressive jackpot. In order to hit the biggest payouts possible, you must play not only max coins but also max pay lines. Obviously, this will cost a lot more, so you need to adjust the coin nomination even further downwards. Rather than playing single coins on a $1 machine, you would play, for instance, four coins and 5 lines on a 5 cents machine to have the corresponding amount of fun.

5.Slot machines and bonus rounds

Consider using the bonus rounds offered by some slot machines. That is, a game of its own where you gamble with some or all the coins you just won on the regular spin. It’s a bet that often pays even money, which makes it the best bet available to you on these machines. Understand though, that while it gives you decent chances of winning more, it also opens for the possibility of losing what you just won. Accepting slots bonus rounds don’t change your win or loss expectation, but they increase the fluctuations in your bank roll. Your wins get bigger, but you don’t win as often.

I hope these strategies will help you in winning online slots games. So, play and enjoy!!

Select the camera of good quality and which can capture the image well. The camera should focus your subject clearly. You can place the subject against a green or blue color background. These two colors are used because they are farthest from the human skin tone. The subject should not wear any color which is the one selected as the background. This prevents from spoiling the quality of the final photograph. A photographer should also ensure that the subject is well-lit to prevent any kind of shadows in the picture. The background should also be well-lighted separately. The subject should be at appropriate distance from the background. This helps in creating a separation between the two. Keep the camera on the tripod which prevents from undue movement of the camera. After you have captured the picture you can use the editing tools to edit the photograph. Plant Toxins And The Art Of Poisoning

2010 September 3

Anything that comes from Nature is almost always deemed as pure, beneficial, and healthy. Everything from herbal tea to natural muscle relaxants are being touted as the new and better alternatives to more conventional medication. Everyone seems to have fallen into this new craze, even if most people don’t quite understand what they’re getting themselves into. However, nature can provide humanity with much more than natural muscle relaxants and stimulants, as anyone who has had experience with plant and animal toxins can likely attest to. Spiders, scorpions, and a variety of other animals all carry their own natural toxins, often with effects that rival the death rate and potency of even the most powerful man-made neuro-toxins. The plant world also has an abundance of toxins, some of which are well-known, some have played roles in history, and others have been adapted to serve medicinal roles in 搈odern?herbal lore, usually as sedatives and muscle relaxants.

One of the more famous herbs with potentially lethal toxic properties would be hemlock. Historically, doses of hemlock were used as a means of executing criminals in various ancient Greek city-states, with Socrates being the most notable victim of the practice. Plato, one of Socrates’ contemporaries, wrote a detailed account of the effects that the hemlock serum had on the ancient philosopher, which were seen as being consistent with the effects of a suitable quantity of hemlock used as a poison. The herb has a powerful effect and, in small doses with low concentration, can serve as a substitute for most muscle relaxants. However, in the right mixture or in high enough concentrated dose, it makes for a very deadly drug. Lethal hemlock mixtures are relatively easy to prepare, provided one has the enough quantities of the said plant.

Belladonna, also known as deadly nightshade, is one of the most lethal, toxic plants known to man. The berries of the plant (which bear a slight resemblance to blueberries) have a low concentration, generally requiring a minimum of three berries to poison a small child. However, the concentration of poison in the leaves is much higher, with a single leaf capable of killing an adult human in a fairly short amount of time. The leaves feel like poison ivy to the touch, having an oily texture that is taken by some as a sign of being toxic. The roots have the highest concentration of poison, though the berries are often seen as the most dangerous, as they can easily be mistaken for any number of non-poisonous berries by untrained eyes. The toxin works on the nervous system once ingested, targeting areas that control involuntary functions of the body, such as breathing and the heart. In essence, belladonna toxin shuts down the basic systems of the body.

Curare is also known as a deadly plant, but can also act as a muscle relaxant. In high enough doses, curare can effectively paralyze the entire body. The concentration of poison in any given combination can vary, however, because the concentration in the various areas of the plant can differ from specimen to specimen. Curare is made up of compounds that are not digestible by the body, however, so anyone who ingests the toxin is not going to feel the effects. The only way to be poisoned by curare is to have the toxin be mixed with the blood directly, either through an injection or through an open wound. Curare is usually used as a hunting poison in South America, both because it does not render meat toxic and because it is a quick, effective poison.
